Highpoly base in Blender, sculpted in ZBrush, retopologized and unwrapped in Blender, normals in xNormal, AO in Blender. Rendered in Blender’s Game Engine.

A quick wall fragment for a scene I’m doing. Base mesh in Blender, using Sculpt Mode, then ZBrush.

Fantasy Dagger Final

Final

These shots are from Blender’s viewport. I used Blender, Photoshop, xNormal, CrazyBump, and 3ds max. 3ds max was used only for one viewport render (to use Xoliul’s shader with fresnel).

Fantasy Dagger Lowpoly

Comparison

I did a lowpoly normal mapped version of the dagger. Lowpoly made and unwrapped in Blender, normals baked in xNormal, viewed in 3ds max using Xoliul viewport shader.

100% Blender, the image is actually a grab from viewport, with hardware antialiasing.

And a wire, my best so far:

  • Move/scale on two axes in Blender

3ds max’s transform gizmo has a useful little plane on it that constrains transformations on 2 axes. Blender has it also, although it is not well known I think. To constrain movement/scaling to two axes, simply shift-click the third axis, the one that is sheer to the desired transformation plane.

  • Set Draw Mode on multiple objects in Blender

I struggled with this for a while now, and couldn’t find the solution anywhere. As you probably know selecting multiple objects and setting draw mode will only set it for the active one. The solution is to use Copy Attributes. Set one object and set the draw mode you want, then select multiple objects. Your [...]
