Rendered in Hypershot.

Ori Light Final

Ori Light Final

This is the final version of Ori Light. I will probably also make an Ori Assault version, with the gauntlets I posted before.

The tricount could be lowered easily (her full body is under the suit and was counted), but as it is a personal project I didn’t bothered.

Ori – Blender Viewport Screens

Ori Blender Viewport Screens

Ori low poly. These are untouched viewport screenshots from Blender, viewed using GLSL. Normal maps baked in Blender, texturing made mostly with Photoshop, but also with Blender’s Texture Paint.

I had to dress her up a little :(

Ori – Left Gauntlet, High Poly

Ori Left Gauntlet, High Poly

High poly version of the left gauntlet. I will use it for normal and AO maps for the low poly version. Base mesh in Blender, using subsurf, then ZBrush, rendered in ZBrush.

Ori Wip V – Yafaray Render

Ori Wip V Yafaray Render

It took some pulling out hair and grinding teeth, but I managed to plug in a free renderer – YafaRay – into Blender, and here is a test render with it. Single sun and photon mapping, 156 second rendertime, 150000 photons. There is definitely something wrong about the light bounces, hence the aura around her feet. She is not going to be half naked, this is just a middle stage.

I made a high-poly version of the gauntlets using Subsurf in Blender.

Ori Wip III – Lowpoly Wire

Ori Wip III Lowpoly Wire

Another gauntlet, which will go on the right arm.

Ori Wip II – Lowpoly Wire

I’m working on the lowpoly version now. The gauntlet is modelled in Blender, this render is made with 3ds max with ambient occlusion.

Ori Wip I

Ori Wip I

This is a Wip of a female character I am currently working on (practicing). I’m planning to add her some gear, and make a hi-poly nontextured version, and a low-poly textured version. No reference and no concept sketch used during modeling, although probably will be for the gear.

  • Move/scale on two axes in Blender

3ds max’s transform gizmo has a useful little plane on it that constrains transformations on 2 axes. Blender has it also, although it is not well known I think. To constrain movement/scaling to two axes, simply shift-click the third axis, the one that is sheer to the desired transformation plane.

  • Set Draw Mode on multiple objects in Blender

I struggled with this for a while now, and couldn’t find the solution anywhere. As you probably know selecting multiple objects and setting draw mode will only set it for the active one. The solution is to use Copy Attributes. Set one object and set the draw mode you want, then select multiple objects. Your [...]
